At Nidderdale Tannery, raw skins are transformed into stunning leather, rugs, rawhide, and buckskins using traditional, natural tanning methods. Every piece is a labour of love, turning what might otherwise go to waste into something truly special.

Based in a cosy workshop (kindly provided by wonderful neighbours), this small business is hard at work processing hides year-round. With around 200 hides already in stock—generously donated by local butchers, farmers, fishmongers, abattoirs, and even the occasional roadside find—there’s no shortage of material to create with.

It’s inspiring to see how local resources are given new life through skill and dedication, avoiding waste and keeping production right in the Dales.
